STUDS & DUDS FROM #WASvsARI
STUDS
OLB Preston Smith - Another December, another reminder of what Smith could be but isn't. Enough of the negative though. Smith registered 5 QB pressures, 2 QB hits, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery and a handful of tackles. A monster performance from a player with insane potential.
S DJ Swearinger - Swearinger got his revenge and boy was it sweet. With his former team coming to town, the same one that in his words "gave up on him", DJ was able to show them the mistake they made. He had a tackle for loss as well as the game sealing pass deflection on fourth down. Add on the fact the his defense didn't allow a touchdown all afternoon AND they were officially eliminated from playoff contention, and you've got a perfect revenge.
DE Anthony Lanier II - UDFA to possibly the team's best defensive linemen this year. Lanier II had possibly the best game of any Redskins defensive linemen in the past several years, a game in which he racked up 2 sacks and 3 pass deflections. He now has 5 sacks on the year and is a promising piece to build around along with Matt Ioannidis and Jonathan Allen.
OLB Junior Galette - Although the numbers may not show it, Galette has been a big help in the pass rush this year. He got 1 sack and 1 pass deflection in what was a dominant performance for him against DJ Humphries as he consistently applied pressure. Not sure what his fate will be this off season, but he's definitely been a plus.
DUDS
Offensive Efficiency - On an afternoon where Blaine Gabbert was well...Blaine Gabbert, the Redskins' offense was unable to stretch the point differential by no more than 5. The defense forced turnovers and gave good field position, but the Redskins offense never really got anything going when they were on their own. You can blame it on the amount of injuries we're dealing with, but the fact still remains that they couldn't get much going.
TE Vernon Davis - After filling in perfectly in Jordan Reed's absence, Davis has seemingly fell off a cliff in terms on production these past few weeks. He is a non factor in the passing game as of late and had a fumble the set the Cardinals offense up in the Red Zone. Maybe it's the sweet potato yams, maybe it's Father Time, but I hope this is just a bad stretch of games for Vern and that he will return to his early-season self.
