1. Baker Mayfield, QB (Oklahoma)
In a division filled with high caliber QBs, the Redskins would be at a massive disadvantage if Kirk Cousins decides to leave. Now enter Baker Mayfield. Baker, arguably the most polarizing prospect in this draft class, is a Heisman winner with the swagger you need at the QB spot for the Washington Redskins. While some may still doubt the abilities of the QB, Baker checks 4 of the 5 main categories when it comes to looking at QBs. Arm, Mobility, Leadership, IQ are all traits he has. However, the only negative I have on Baker is his size. We have seen smaller QBs succeed in the NFL (Drew Brees) but it still must be taken into consideration when looking to draft Baker. All things aside, I think he will be a very capable starter at the next level and is exactly what the Skins’ need if Kirk decides to leave via free agency.
2. Nick Chubb, RB (Georgia)
What best compliments a young QB while he develops into the NFL? A great, bell cow, 3 down back. This is exactly what Georgia’s Nick Chubb is. Georgia’s all-time rushing leader could push himself into the latter end of the first post combine but for now this value of this pick is too good to pass up. I am sure Skins’ fans remember RG3 and Alfred Morris their rookie year? Baker and Chubb can replicate that, if not surpass what was accomplished that year. Chubb is a bell cow and will help make it easier for Baker Mayfield, allowing him to develop into a stud in the later years.
3. D.J. Moore, WR (Maryland)
What a success this draft would be if you draft your future trio in the first 3 rounds huh? D.J. Moore has true WR1 potential in the NFL. Only standing at 5”11, Moore busted onto the scene in his Junior year tallying 1008 yards with 8 TDs. What more could you ask for as a rookie QB? This would but the icing on the cake and completely change the look of this team who could be in panic mode, should they lose Kirk to FA. If D.J. is there in the 3rd round, his value alone should make for a sprint to the podium.
4. Holton Hill, CB (Texas)
5. Jerome Baker, LB (Ohio State)
6. Trenton Thompson, DL (Georgia)
7. Tyree Robinson, S (Oregon)
