Fish Smithson Interview

ME : First Things First, congratulations on being promoted to the 53-Man Roster. How rewarding does it feel?

FISH : "It feels great, had to give the offense the best look possible each week & I’m just thankful the coaching staff has given me the opportunity to play."

ME : You impressed me early on in the pre-season. I expected you to eventually get a chance, better late then never, right?

FISH : "Of course, it’s hard to be on a 53 man roster anywhere no matter the team so I’m really just blessed they pulled the trigger."

ME :  How has your time on the practice squad helped prepare you for the day you’d be called up for an NFL Game?

FISH : "Actually, it has helped a lot. Personally, I think the hardest transition from college to the pros is the mental game. Learning the playbook, the terminology & how offenses work is not easy. So I could see how NFL vets prepare week in and week out. It was also good to go against Kirk & the first team offense everyday."

ME : What do you believe you excel at the most when you are on the football field?

FISH : "Looking to make a big play. That’s what I love to do, that’s why I like playing this game. I enjoy making the play that changes games."

ME :  Are there any safeties in the NFL that you watch/grew up watching that you try to tailor your game after?

FISH : "Ed Reed is my favorite player. He could play any skill position on the field, offense or defense. He was a big play waiting to happen & wherever he lined up, you had to account for him."

ME : What do you think will be going through your head, Sunday at 1 pm, as you get ready to play in the first game of your NFL career?

FISH : Just blessed to be honest. Dreamt about this my whole life and I can’t even explain how thankful I am to get to go out there on Fed Ex field and compete at the highest level in the sport."
