Interview With Chris Thompson
ME: OTAs going for you guys so far? What’s the vibe like?
CHRIS: OTAs are going good. We’re just out here having fun and getting better. It’s the type of atmosphere guys love to be around.ME: Do you have any goals for yourself this season or for the team in general?
CHRIS: My goal is always to win the superbowl. I learned from the great Santana Moss to have personal goals but not make them your main focus because once you reach those numbers then what? Or if you don’t you consider yourself a failure. If we’re winning the numbers will take care of itself.ME: What do you think you excel at the most on the football field?
CHRIS: I think my route running and pass pro are two of my best attributes. As a running back, being a great route runner changes the dynamics of an offense and affects defenses in many ways. Being a good pass blocker also helps.ME: What’s one interesting or unique fact about yourself?
CHRIS: I love animals, specifically big cats, lions, tigers, panthers, etc. I would love to help with the BlackJaguarWhiteTiger organization that rescues those animals. It seems really fun and the relationships the owner has with those animals is amazing to me.ME: Was there a player that you idolized as a kid? Is there any player that you try to model your game after now?
CHRIS: I wanted to be like Derek Jeter when i was a kid. He’s my all time favorite athlete. I loved baseball as much as football growing up. To me he was the poster child for what an athlete should be. Ladainian Tomlinson is my favorite running back though. He was a good pass catcher and runner and that’s the skill set i focused on possessing.ME: Just how crazy has this journey to the NFL been for you Chris?
CHRIS: My NFL Journey has been very interesting. I came into this league with questions of am i going to be good enough, big enough, or healthy enough to play in this league as a running back. At most probably a good return man. Had surgery my rookie year after after an ACL surgery as a senior in college and a broken back as a Junior so i just knew my career was over. I saw no reason why a team would take a chance on me when I played maybe 15 games my last three years of football combined. Then getting a new coaching staff that didn’t draft me, I had doubts but god had a bigger plan for me. It hasn’t been easy but it sure has been worth it. I can share my testimony with others and that’s what makes it so amazing. Being able to have an impact on others. The great thing is my story is far from finished.
